About the official pollution stickers

Drivers can decide for themselves whether to buy a fine dust sticker or not. It guarantees that clean cars can freely drive in environmental zones. You can get the official pollution stickers from your GTÜ expert.

How do you get the pollution sticker?

Please enter all the data in the order form and then send it to us by fax, post or e-mail. Please include a copy of the vehicle documents and proof of the installed diesel particle filter.

We use your documents to check which colour sticker your vehicle will get. You will then receive the fine particle sticker and the invoice by post at a price of EUR10 including postage, shipping and VAT.

The order will be processed and ready for shipment within one week. However, it can take up to two weeks to ship the sticker to places abroad.

If you don’t receive a fine particle sticker for your vehicle, we will tell you.

Source: Section 6 (3) Sentence 4 Ordinance on the Issue and Amendment of Regulations on the Labelling of Low-Emission Vehicles

Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles can be issued with a green sticker when pollution stickers are issued.

Note

Motor vehicles with no internal combustion engine (e.g. electric motor, fuel cell vehicles) are assigned to pollutant group 4 (green sticker).

You will find the date of first registration in field B of the registration certificate.

Which motor vehicles are affected?

Cars, buses and lorries.

The following vehicles are exempt from this regulation:

  • Working machinery
  • Agricultural and forestry tractors
  • Two- and three-wheeled motor vehicles
  • Vehicles with special rights according to Section 35 StVZO (German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations) (e.g. flashing blue lights, police vehicles, fire trucks)
  • Mobile machinery
  • Vehicles driven by or with people suffering from impaired mobility or who are severely disabled or blind whose severe disability pass contains the codes “aG”, “H” or “Bl” in accordance with the Severely Disabled Persons Pass Ordinance
  • Vehicles of non-German troops within the framework of military cooperation
  • Civilian vehicles used on behalf of the Bundeswehr (German military forces) involving journeys that cannot be postponed for the fulfilment of official duties of the German military forces
  • Vintage cars with an H or 07 on the number plate

In the registration certificate Part I, the relevant key number is in field 14.1; for older vehicle registration certificates in field “zu 1”. The last two digits are relevant.

Vehicles registered abroad also need a fine particle sticker in German environmental zones

Cars with foreign registrations have free passage in German cities that have set up environmental zones if they are low-emission and carry a pollution sticker.

Only vehicles that bear the corresponding pollution sticker on the windscreen are allowed to drive in the environmental zones. If the colour of the pollution sticker on the vehicle is not identical to the low emission zone sign, the vehicle is not allowed to drive in this low emission zone.

Motor vehicles that have been issued with a sticker that is the same as that displayed on the additional road sign are exempt from the driving ban.
