GTÜ is Germany’s largest officially recognised inspection organisation of freelance vehicle inspectors.

In 1990, GTÜ was granted the approval to conduct periodic technical inspections (PTI) with an integrated exhaust emission test on vehicles. Since then, vehicle owners and garages have been able to choose an alternative to TÜV and DEKRA to have their vehicles officially inspected.

Today, more than 2,500 freelance and full-time certified vehicle inspectors serve with their qualified employees in over 11,000 test stations within garages, car dealerships and privately owned test centres of our partners.

These certified inspectors all have an engineering qualification with an additional eight months of training. They provide the following services on behalf and for account of GTÜ:

  • Periodic technical inspections (PTI) according to § 29 of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulation (StVZO) (incl. exhaust emissions test)

  • Safety tests according to § 29 StVZO for lorries and trailers

  • Modification approvals according to § 19(3) StVZO

  • Expert appraisal of vintage cars according to § 23 StVZO

  • Inspections according to the German Regulation on the Operation of Motor Vehicle Companies in Passenger Transport (BOKraft)

  • ADR/GGVS (Regulation on Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) inspections

More and more vehicle drivers are choosing GTÜ because they connect with our motto “Extra service for your safety”. The statistics are clear: the number of vehicle inspections conducted and the number of GTÜ certified inspectors are both on an upwards curve.
